The Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 "White/Red" is a Fall 2020 collaboration between the New York City streetwear and lifestyle brand and New Balance that unearths the slept-on retro basketball shoe from the latter’s archives. Debuting to little fanfare in the late 1980s, the New Balance 550 was never tied to any specific basketball player or moment in the NBA and was quickly surpassed in popularity by more mainstream New Balance shoes like former Los Angeles Laker star James Worthy’s signature New Balance 740. In 2020, Aimé Leon Dore worked with New Balance to re-release the shoe in casual, two-tone colorways inspired by classic retro hoops shoes. A mixture of smooth and dotted cream leather appears on the shoe’s upper. Red accenting on the “550” insignia on the forefoot and “N” branding on the mid-panel contrast the look of the neutral-colored base. Dual “Aimé Leon Dore” and “NB” branding can be found on the back of the left and right shoe, respectively. Red molding appears on the heel and red accenting graces the tongue tag. The pre-yellowed midsole is a salute to the nostalgic look of the New Balance 550. Release date: October 9, 2020
